Kia ora! Welcome to the Edgecumbe Choir’s site.

We are a community based choir, and we perform a wide range of music from the last five centuries. This ranges from carols, masses, oratorios, opera and musical theatre numbers to art, folk and popular songs. In common with other choirs, much of our repertoire is religious in origin, and we often perform in churches. However, the choir is secular and is not affiliated to any faith - our members belong to various religions and denominations (or none).

We rehearse in Whakatane at the church of St George & St John on Thursday evenings from 7.30 pm to 9.30 pm from roughly February to early December. We also practise on Tuesday evenings for around a month before each concert.

We have over 60 performing members and give at least two public concerts a year - the photo in the header shows us in action during our "Christmas Wonder" concert in December 2011.

Members’ singing development is encouraged with workshops and courses. We  like socialising too: there are at least two major social events for the whole choir during the year, and some sections (notably the tenors!) periodically have additional get - togethers...

Our vision:

“The Edgecumbe Choir – a vibrant and inclusive group of singers who enjoy learning a range of choral music to an excellent standard and performing to a wide and appreciative audience.”

We recently agreed on 3 strategies to achieve our vision:

1.   Grow our audiences

2.   Maintain or improve our standard of performance

3.   Strengthen our membership and participation levels
