Eastern Bay singers are to be treated to a choral workshop in early April by renowned British conductor, Janet Lincé GGSM. In a joint venture between The Edgecumbe Choir and Eastern Bay REAP, Janet will be returning to Whakatane for one night to conduct a workshop with anyone interested in choral singing. The workshop is open to the general public and admittance is by registration through either Eastern Bay REAP or The Edgecumbe Choir.

Janet’s career has spanned many areas of music, from accompanying for singers, choirs and opera companies, through voice teaching and professional singing in London, to conducting and chorus mastering. She is currently conductor or co-musical director of four choirs and chorusmaster for the Newbury International Spring Festival. Janet is a Council member of the Association of British Choral Directors.

As a guest chorusmaster with the BBC Symphony Chorus, the Philharmonia Chorus and the London Symphony Chorus Janet has worked for conductors such as Andrew Davis, Richard Hickox, Yakov Kreizberg, Kurt Masur and Mikhail Pletnev.

Since 2001 she has prepared the Newbury Spring Festival Chorus for performances under Paul Daniel, John Lubbock and Alexander Lazarev. In 2006 the chorus performed Mozart’s Mass in C Minor with the English Chamber Orchestra under Roy Goodman and in 2007 it sang Elgar’s The Music Makers under the baton of Richard Hickox.

Janet has toured New Zealand four times and in 2003 was engaged for three months as guest conductor for Auckland Choral with whom she performed Handel’s Messiah and settings of the Gloria by Poulenc, Rutter and Vivaldi. Whilst there, she was invited by the New Zealand Choral Federation to adjudicate at their national choral ‘Classic Sing’ Final held in Rotorua.

Janet was last in Whakatane in 2003 when she conducted a similar workshop to the coming one in April. The 2008 workshop takes place on Tuesday, 8 April, 7.30pm at the Church of St George and St John. Music will be provided at the workshop so all singers need to bring is their voices!!
