We have called our next concert "Stepping Out". The reason is to depart from tradition and produce something relatively modern - music that has been composed mainly in our lifetime that is popular.

As stated in an earlier article, if you think in terms of Queen, Simon & Garfunkel, Paul McCartney, Bette Midler, Eric Clapton, Broadway and The West End you wouldn't be too far wrong.

The choir hasn't tackled anything like this before in its 51 year history which is why the concert has been called "Stepping Out". Most appropriate don't you think?

However we have also included a segement of Gilbert and Sullivan for those who can remember back to the 1950s and very early 60s when G & S was performed by very many high schools throughout the country.

The choir is really wanting new members as well, which is another reason to put on such a programme. New members will thoroughly enjoy it.

Practices begin Thursday12 February at the Church of St George and St John in Domain Rd, Whakatane starting at 7.30pm. We rehearse every Thursday, and, closer to the performances, every Tuesday as well. Practices run for two hours and occasionally we have a supper break.

The performance dates are Saturday, 9 May and Sunday, 10 May.

Come and join us. Just turn up and you will be looked after.
