Following on from the Edgecumbe Choir's last performance is the coming "Handel Pop" concert. 5th and 6th of September are the dates to pencil in your diaries for a feast of popular Handel choruses, anthems, arias and airs. The choir is presenting this concert to celebrate 250 years of G F Handel's music since his death.
Soloists include soparano Elizabeth Pilaar, contralto Patricia Wackrow and bass Tom Oates. Assisting with the accompaniment are Anne Holme (assistant organist, St Peters Cathedral - Hamilton), Maurice Reid and Sandy Herewini - trumpets, and Olga Stancliff - piano.
Audiences will be treated to music from Samson, Judas Maccabaeus, Solomon, Semele, Messiah, Ode to St Cecilia's Day, Xerses as well as a number of incidental pieces Handel composed - all easy listening.
The concerts are on at the Church of St George & St John, Domain Rd, Whakatane - 7.30pm on 5 Sept & 6 Sept. Tickets are $20 or $15 each for groups of 6 and are available now from "The Good Life", The Strand, Whakatane or through choir members. Doors sales will be available unless the concerts are pre sold.
